A Literature Review about Measurement and Intervention in Elder Abuse

Abstract
Elder abuse has only recently emerged as an issue on the public. So, research measuring such abuse have yet to be developed and explored. Concern about the abuse of elders is heightened by the knowledge of current and demographic and social change in Korea. But elder abuse is an visible problem, especially in Korea. First of all, the family is sacrosanct and interference with the family life by outsiders is not tolerated. Second, because abuse occurs within the confines of a private dwelling, it is hidden spouse, adult child. ). Fourth, elder abuse may be undetected because of the failure of professional to detect the problem or to be aware that elder abuse may have occurred. Fifth, the invisibility of elder abuse can result from the failure of professionals to report the problem.

So, to facilitate such measurements, those entrusted with decision-making responsibilities should be familiar with the results of studies on the dynamics related to the abuse of older individuals. Specifically, we need to be aware of the characteristics of high risk elderly and high risk caregivers, so as to be duly cautious in making placement decisions involving such individuals. Because it may be very complexed problem of aging society in Korea. Thus we must be sensitive to accelerating care needs, expression of stress-related symptoms by caregivers, and episodes of loss of control by the elder or members of the family.

This study reviewed various measurement and intervention for the elder abuse. So, the purpose of this paper was to find some application and to improve welfare policies of the aged by suggesting the problems elder abuse in our country.
